Lisa: So how are you? Did you have a good sleep?
Electrobios: I went to sleep dreaming about the interview hahaha. Tell me when you start the mix so we can listen to it at the same time.
Lisa: I’m at 14 min now.
Electrobios: Perfect
Lisa: These first few tracks are so smooth. I like to hear a lot of layers within the tracks like these do.
Electrobios: Yes like the first track, which Luke Fair has used on some of his mixes. I’m happy about that. Luke and Desyn are playing my tracks.
Lisa: Ah that’s so funny because I said to my bf that it reminds me of Luke.

Lisa: Who was the first to play your tracks and how did you get them to play them?
Electrobios: Well that’s good question. It was Andrew of Add2basket. Lucas Abadi gave him some of my tracks. I didn’t know Andrew before this. Then he came to Argentina and played one of my tracks at a party called Power Fest at Club Divino for 1,500 to 2,000 people, which was amazing because I got to hear my track played live. When it came on the crowd exploded! After that we started talking more and now we are friends. He is always the first person to listen to my work. I respect his opinion a lot so I always like to hear his feedback. Then I send them to labels and other DJ’s. He also shows me a lot of clips and new tracks. He has really helped me a lot. After that a lot of people started asking me about tracks.
Lisa: So that’s how it all began, that must have been very cool for you to hear your track at such a big party
Electrobios: Yes I was so happy. After that he used a lot my tracks, like 3 tracks out of 10 on a mix. Then I saw on a global underground forum that Desyn was playing 2 or 3 tracks on his mixes and that was amazing for me because Desyn and Luke are my favourite DJ’s.

Lisa: Are the tracks just passed along to whoever wants to play them?
Electrobios: Well for me it’s so good that Desyn or Jody, etc. play my tracks because it’s good promotion for me and they are happy about the tracks. I gave Desyn a CD with 10 original tracks in Mexico.

Lisa: What labels have picked up your tracks?
Electrobios: My labels are: Symphonic Records, Startling Beats, Extrema Records, Anjuna Deep, add2basket, Brown Eyed Boyz records and Discoteca.

Lisa: Which tracks are yours on this mix?
Electrobios: Mudy Loops - Electric Stars (Electrobios & Interplay remix) and Electrobios & Phunktastike - On My Own (original mix). The first one is at 51min and the second at 1h26min.

Lisa: Ok I will be listening closely. Why do you think there is so many talented DJ’s coming from Argentina?
Electrobios: I don’t know, hmmm….. Maybe we have good taste in music. In my case it’s because I study music way too much. The music needs to go off like a bomb on my head! I make all my music with love and effort.
Lisa: I think that’s why it sounds so good
Electrobios: Well I think that now we are living in difficult times you know. It’s very difficult for new DJ’s to build their careers without producing tracks. You need to make yourself different from the others

Lisa: What kind of equipment are you using to make tracks?
Electrobios: Well, I use Ableton Live as a main soft, external synths and many plugins like Z3ta, Korg Collection, Albino, Trilogy and many others.
Lisa: How did you learn to use them all?
Electrobios: At home trying all of them out and also then I went to an institute for engineering in electronic music.
Lisa: Really when did you do that?
Electrobios: During 2006 and part of 2005
Lisa: I didn’t know there was a school for that; is it in Buenos Aires?
Electrobios: Yes, and before that I took general music at Berklee.
Lisa: Where you a full time or part time student?
Electrobios: Part time but I was working or listening or some thing like that all day, too much.

Lisa: Ha-ha I’m sure, so did you have a job while studying or were you just DJing?
Electrobios: Yes I’m a music teacher at home.
Lisa: Oh really…so what are you teaching?
Electrobios: I teach Ableton live and about music in general so people will be able to apply it to electronic music. I teach what I like mostly but I teach all styles like electro, progressive, funky. I don’t know if it’s a good thing or a bad thing but I’m always trying to help people…I watch to see if I think he looks promising for making it in electronic music. I teach what I think they will need to go out and make music.
Lisa
: So these students trying to become DJ’s?
Electrobios: Yes all of them, more than I like or want. There are too many DJ’s that’s its not good for the future.
Lisa: Ha-ha ya I guess, you can’t let them know all your secrets! They may become your competition one day!
Electrobios: I learned that the hard way. When I started I used to say all my secrets and then I made mixes for students to teach them. But then a couple of them sent my mixes to other countries as if they were there own and they even got gigs from my work… I really didn’t enjoy that.
Lisa: Wow that’s so not cool, taking the teacher’s credit
Electrobios: Once I made a trance mix but just for a student, I hate the trance. I did that and the guy got on a radio program thanks to my work!
Lisa: Wow so what did you say to him?
Electrobios: Nothing because I know that after that he won’t go anywhere because he can’t make mixes the same as me, the truth will be appear on the floor.
Lisa: You can never get ahead by stealing other peoples work, it’s like cheating on a test, it won’t get you anywhere in the long run. So how has your teaching changed as a result of this?
Electrobios: It’s more general, I’m just telling the students only what they need and no more, they need to get their own secrets. But I prefer to playing in other countries and working on tracks more than teaching. In fact I think that I won’t teach anymore because I’m too busy planning future gigs etc.

Lisa: Since there are so many DJ’s in Argentina right now, what is the biggest challenge?
Electrobios: Well it’s super difficult play here. It’s easier for me to get gigs in other countries than in Argentina.

Lisa: Do you think Argentina will continue to be so popular for this type of music in the future?
Electrobios: Right now the scene is more popular than I like, there are too many events and too many DJ’s. But I don’t think this will continue because they are destroying the electronic scene.
Lisa: By becoming to mainstream?
Electrobios: Yes, in other places like Europe or the USA you can have an event at a medium sized club but here the events are too big. DJ’s I respect so much like Hernan Cattaneo, Sasha, Digweed can’t play at clubs here because too many people go, like 7,000 to 10,000 people. For example Danny Howells and Hernan will play here next Saturday for about 10,000 people!
Lisa: Wow that’s too many people. Events like that just aren’t the same, I haven’t been to one of that magnitude but I would imagine it becomes less about the music and more about just partying.
Electrobios: It’s always like that here

Lisa: These tracks flow so well together.
Electrobios: I like the general idea of the mix
Lisa: How long did it take u to make it?
Electrobios: I did this mix in 3 hours.
Lisa: Wow that’s quick; did you know what tracks you wanted to use before you started?
Electrobios says: Yes for promos or mixes like that I always do because I want it all to run perfectly.

Electrobios: I want to tell you a secret…
Lisa: Ok
Electrobios: I’m making an original CD with Phunktastike and also we will have our own label next year. It will be called Spirit Soul Records.
Lisa: Wow that’s great, so what do you hope to accomplish with your label?
Electrobios: To make a good pack of Electrobios tracks, music like this, I want Bombs!
Lisa
: Yes of course, that’s what Tom Morgan told me about Discoteca, it sounds like you have similar goals.
Electrobios: Yes well but it’s time to sell my own tracks you know. Tom Morgan, Gaby Sordo and a lot of DJ’s at Discoteca, etc. are playing my tracks or Mariano tracks, so I think that’s why I need to make them for myself.
Lisa: So once you have your own label does that mean you get the credit and not the label? If someone wants to play the track you have signed do they have to pay you for the rights to do that?
Electrobios: Yes of course, if it’s for a radio or something like that, it’s the way that we need to work, it will help me with my career.

Lisa: This is a nice track, I like that looping sound (at 1hr 21min)
Electrobios: Yesterday I was working on a remix of this track which will be ready this week.
Lisa: This would do really well on the dance floor. I would be busting it out for sure. That big sound that comes in from the back is great.
Electrobios: Yes, I like it, I made a house remix of it.

Lisa: How do you create a remix?
Electrobios: First I get all the parts. Then I start with a new bass line and some melody and then I try to apply some parts of the original that I think are needed to make the new track. Then I use parts of it with parts of the other. This one is my track (1hr 26min).

Lisa: Very nice! Why are remixes important?
Electrobios: I think what’s more important are the originals or remixes that are different from the originals because you have to create something that’s all new. But I think that it’s good also to make remixes.
Lisa: Yes of course, but why?
Electrobios: First, because I can appear with other names and if they are well known then it’s even better! Second, to be able offer to the crowd something different.

Lisa: Do you have to ask the producer if you can remix of their track…How does that process work?
Electrobios: No generally the label. The label asks you if would like to make a remix because they know you and they like your work. But if I have some new original tracks, I can send some clips to labels and if they like them then they will sign my remix to their label.

Lisa: Ah o.k. That last track, were those real whispers or did you make them?
Electrobios: I made them. I played the solo with Phunkstastike on a piano.

Lisa says: Ah ok cool… So let’s talk about your recent tour. Was that your first American tour?
Electrobios: Yes North American and Central American.
Lisa: What was the highlight of the tour?
Electrobios: New York was super but I really enjoyed Mexico. It was great to meet some new people. Everywhere I went the people were so polite and they enjoyed the music a lot. I was able to go on this promotional tour thanks to the promoters I met at the last WMC, which is a great place for making business contacts. I also had a great time sightseeing and experiencing the local culture of all the places I visited. Puerto Rico was an amazing place as well.

Lisa: What did you enjoy doing growing up?
Electrobios: Hmmm I liked to play some sports but not too much, when I was young I played tennis or basketball but not now. Now I prefer to drink with friends or girls. Hahaha.

Lisa: What is Argentinean food like?
Electrobios: Food is so great here. You can eat a lot of different food. There is one dish here called ASADO.
Lisa: What is that?
Electrobios: Big and good meat, like roast beef but bigger muuuuuuuuu hhahaha.

Lisa: This track is a nice way to end the set, I feel like I have heard it before. I love the vocals and the build up is nice, not too big just nice a smooth
Electrobios: Yes is a remix of add2basket
Lisa: Whose remix?
Electrobios: It’s and unreleased remix, Magitman and someone else.
Lisa: I thought I had heard that vocal sample before
Electrobios: Yes because the original is called Volaris by add2basket and Claes Rosen. It went out about 4 months ago.

Lisa: So I think I have all I need for the interview the mix is great, thanks for making it!
Electrobios: Ok thanks well now I have to go!
Lisa: Me too time for bed
Electrobios: Thanks again for all.

Lisa: Yes for sure my pleasure
Electrobios: Good bye! Kisses!!
